Silent Priority: Abstract

A Lost Fashion

Silent Priority is the outcome of my Masters degree in Historic Costume. It is a body of work that tests the research method of 'recreation' and its application to dress history. I use recreation to tackle a gaping hole in museum collections worldwide - working class clothing.

Untapped and Unvalued

Family photo albums are a vital resource that has remained largely overlooked in dress history studies. As the tide of interest begins to turn from high fashion to every day life, I explore how recreation can be used to provide a tactile substitute for extant garments.

Duty to our History

I use a rigorous justification process to ensure that the materials, techniques and equipment are as historically accurate as possible, ensuring the resulting recreations are valid substitutes for their originals.
